Association

The sponsor of the festival is the association auawirleben Bern, which was founded in 1998. The aim of the association is to promote contemporary theatre, in particular by organising and staging the annual auawirleben festival. Every year, this festival enlivens the city of Bern with theatre groups from far away and close by, and allows the audience to experience what happens between theatre and reality. The audience encounters new forms of theatre and is invited to debate with the artists, to exchange ideas in the festival centre, to the supporting programme and to the aua festival. The festival can look forward to a curious audience, a passionate response and public and private support.

The Board of Directors

At present, the board consists of Sandra Künzi (artist and lawyer), Jacqueline Strauss (Director of the Museum of Communication), Wolfram Heberle (Head of the Theatre Programme at the HKB), Pascale Altenburger (dancer) and Rabea Grand (former Co-Director of the Theaterhaus Gessnerallee Zurich). The association currently has 88 members.

Help us to continue enriching the cultural life of the city of Bern at the Schlachthaus Theater, the Dampfzentrale, the Tojo of the Reitschule and at other venues. You will be making an important contribution to the success of the festival and will benefit from special member goodies: As a member, you will be among the first to receive the programme hot off the press at the general meeting, and we will also treat you to a dinner at the Festival Centre during the festival.
